Radiation Oncology Services Provides State-of-the-Art Prostate Cancer Treatment Close to Home
About Us
Radiation Oncology Services has been providing cancer care to patients in the Atlanta area for over 25 years. Under the medical direction of J. Warner Ray, MD, ROS uniquely couples cutting-edge technology with compassionate patient care.
It is our mission to provide state-of-the-art evaluation and treatment for cancer patients requiring radiation therapy. Our physicians and staff collaborate with other healthcare providers to assure multi-disciplinary and comprehensive services for all patients in a caring environment.
What Patients Can Expect at Every ROS Center
- A Commitment to Patient Care: An exceptional staff is the integral link between technology and compassionate cancer care. ROS boasts a staff of boardcertified radiation oncologists, nurses, physicists, dosimetrists and radiation therapists. To learn more about our staff, please visit www.radonc.com.
- A Commitment to Quality: Since 1994 all ROS Centers have been fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
- A Commitment to Technology: By keeping up with the latest technological advances in radiation therapy, our referring doctors and patients can be confident that our facilities are equipped with the same cutting-edge technology as major cancer centers across the country.
ROS Centers are located throughout the metropolitan Atlanta area
ROS-Riverdale:In 1983, ROS-Riverdale was the first free-standing radiation therapy center in Georgia and the 11th in the country. ROS-Riverdale now has three state-of-the-art linear accelerators. Clinical programs and services – under the direction of Dr. John Giesler, Dr. Peter Possert and Dr. Kim Vu – include prostate seed implants, high dose rate brachytherapy, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and MammoSite® radiation therapy. Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) was added in early 2007 to further enhance the precision and accuracy of treatment.
ROS-Cobb:
The Cobb center opened in 1985 with one linear accelerator. A second linear accelerator was added in 1990 when the center moved to the campus of WellStar Cobb Hospital. Today, the clinical programs include IMRT, IGRT, MammoSite® radiation therapy, prostate seed implants and high dose rate brachytherapy for gynecological cancers. Dr. Nancy Wiggers, Dr. Laura Allen and Dr. David Shaw direct all clinical programs at the ROS-Cobb facility.
ROS-Newnan:
In response to the growing need for cancer care in Coweta county, located 40 miles southeast of Atlanta, ROSNewnan opened in 1989. In 2004, a facility renovation resulted in significant technology upgrades. Under the direction of Dr. Diana Santiago and Dr. Geetha Rao, ROSNewnan provides patients with IMRT and prostate brachytherapy. The recent addition of IGRT enhances cancer care for patients in the area.
ROS-Griffin:
ROS-Griffin opened in 1990 to serve Spalding and adjacent counties. A facility expansion in 2005 incorporated a new linear accelerator to support an IMRT program. Dr. Robbie Medbery currently directs the clinical activities at ROSGriffin. Patients in the area have the benefit of an active prostat seed implant program. In addition, IGRT was added in 2006.
South Fulton Medical Center:Dr. Ray, ROS founder and current president, began his career in community cancer care at SFMC in 1975. At that time, SFMC had the first linear accelerator in Georgia for the treatment of cancer patients outside of a university setting. Today, SFMC continues as a hospital-based radiation therapy center to serve patients in the communities of East Point, College Park, Hapeville, Union City, Fairburn and Palmetto.
What the Future Holds For ROS:ROS continually evaluates the need for radiation therapy in the metropolitan Atlanta area. As communities grow, we look to expanding our current facilities to accommodate the needs of our patients. Partnering with hospitals to provide comprehensive cancer care on their campuses is another avenue to provide our services to areas in need of radiation therapy. “The future is bright for our existing ROS centers as well as for upcoming ROS endeavors,” says Dr. Ray. “We welcome all opportunities to work with doctors and hospitals to enhance cancer care in the communities we serve.”
